How to enable debug, XML, and/or WBXML logging for ActiveSync enabled accounts/clients/domains

Follow the steps below to enable debug logging as well as XML and/or WBXML logging for specific accounts, clients, and/or domains in MDaemon. These logging configurations can useful when investigating issues or when requested by MDaemon Support.

In most circumstances, debug and XML logging should not be enabled unless investigating or monitoring a specific issue or when requested by MDeamon Support.  When enabled, an extensive amount of data is logged and will increase log sizes and the number of logs considerably.

The default AirSync logfile location is in the \MDaemon\Logs directory and the default XML/WBXML directory is in the \MDaemon\Logs\AirSync\$Domain$\$Account$\$DeviceID$\ directory.

Depending on the version of MDaemon is running, the labels and menus may appears different.  If there are any questions, please contact support.

To enable debug, XML, and/or WBXML logging per account:
  1. Select Accounts
  2. Select Edit Account
  3. Double click the account in question
  4. Expand ActiveSync
  5. Select Client Settings
  6. Select Debug from the Log Level drop down list.
  7. Check XML next to Archive transactions as to enable XML logging.
    - The checkbox contains a Square. Select it once to clear the check box and once again to place the check in the box and enable the feature.
  8. Check WBXML next to Archive transactions as to enable WBXML logging.
  9. Click OK

To enable debug, XML, and/or WBXML logging for a specific client/device:
  1. Select Accounts
  2. Select Edit Account
  3. Double click the account in question
  4. Expand ActiveSync
  5. Select Clients
  6. Double click or right click on the desired client.
  7. Select Customize Client Settings
  8. Select Debug from the Log Level drop down list.
  9. Check XML next to Archive transactions as to enable XML logging.
    - The checkbox contains a Square. Select it once to clear the check box and once again to place the check in the box and enable the feature.
  10. Check WBXML next to Archive transactions as to enable WBXML logging.
  11. Click OK

These log configurations can also be enabled per-domain.  However, as stated above, this can cause a vast increase in log file sizes and log files generated.
  1. Select Setup
  2. Select Domain Manager
  3. Expand ActiveSync
  4. Select Client Settings
  5. Select Debug from the Log Level drop down list.
  6. Check XML next to Archive transactions as to enable XML logging.
    - The checkbox contains a Square. Select it once to clear the check box and once again to place the check in the box and enable the feature.
  7. Check WBXML next to Archive transactions as to enable WBXML logging.
  8. Click OK

Once logs are collected and/or the investigation is finished, these logs can be set back to defaults buy selecting Info as the log level and disabling XML and/or WBXML logging.
